The Chime is so gentle and distinctive that it has actually charmed people up from the front drive to see what they were hearing—-the sound is soft and soothing and can be experienced inside much of the house without being too sharp or harsh—I have ordered 4 more for house warming gifts.

The Tudor Rose Chimes from Woodstock Percussion are a great addition to any outdoor decor. As soon as you unpack them from the box, you’ll be impressed with their appearance – the wood is a beautifully natural cherry and the chimes themselves are a deep reddish bronze. Each piece of the set feels very sturdy as well.

But it doesn’t really show off until you hear it. The sound is astounding full, especially given its compact size. The eight different tones come together to make a peaceful stream of sound rather than the dissonant clang-clang-clang of lesser chimes. I had read about the meticulous tuning process in the product description but figured that a chime was a chime – these proved me wrong within a few minutes of hanging them.

I initially purchased these as a gift, but have since gotten a set for my own home. The Woodstock website has recommendations on combining different chimes for maximum harmony – at Amazon’s low prices, I’m sure to purchase more sets soon.

We are in to wind chimes. We live next to Puget Sound where there is wind constantly. These are our favorite wind chimes so far. The tone and sound quality are rich and full.

We saw these originally at Cannon Beach Oregon but they were too expensive. On Amazon they were about 40% cheaper. We ordered and they were shipped fast, and we were enjoying them no time.

I’ve always loved the idea of chimes, but most get annoying with a hollow, and sometimes dissonant, sound. These, however, have a rich and fully tuned resonance that’s simply beautiful, relaxing, and wonderful. I wish I lived a little more in the country where I could hang each set around a large yard!! (I’ve even considered hanging a set in the house near a ceiling fan!)

We bought ours at a retail shop (and paid considerably more), saw all the different sets (in the key of C, A, and E – I believe they make other keys as well); the store owner played a little tune on them – they are THAT musically accurate. Amazing. Just a tip – the longer the set, the deeper the sound; he called the 2 biggest sets the church bells and the Mongolian bells. Simply amazing.

I bought one of these spinners to suspend from a garden gazebo above a bird bath (on a wire about two feet long). It’s very pretty out of the box and spins very well. Unfortunately, it’s pretty flimsy and I needed some modification to make mine work.

First, it weighs almost nothing, so while it spins fine in a gentle breeze, any strong gusts or winds toss it around like a beach ball (which throws off its spinning). I solved this problem by drilling a hole in the base of the cage and affixing the heaviest cabinet knob I could find at the hardware store as a counterweight. Now it spins beautifully even when the wind is really blowing.

Second, my model has a glass teardrop in the center, which swings and spins freely from the cage. Due to the design of the blades of the cage, this tear drop can swing between two of the blades and then become wedged between them as the rotating blades “sweep” it up. It remains caught until you manually untangle it. On mine, this happened about every ten minutes. I solved this problem by using a small piece of copper wire to affix the “spring” the teardrop sits in to the bottom of the cage (conveniently using the same screw I used to affix the cabinet knob).

With those two problems fixed, it’s now a very eye-catching decoration for my backyard and I’m happy with it. It just would have been nice not to have to reinforce it myself.

On an unrelated note, the directions recommend putting a coat of car wax on it once a year if you want to keep it shiny. I put on a couple of coats of clear enamel spray paint instead.
