Once again Amazon shipping exceeded my expectations, the rain chains arrived earlier than I had originally thought.

Fairly good packaging. The chains arrived in a plastic “sock” to minimize scratching during shipment.

Very easy to adjust the length and to install. They have been up for 6 weeks and the patina process is beginning to take place.

They look great, many compliments, just do not expect them to handle more than a light rain, because once it starts to come down, the spray is significant.

I love these gutter chains, they look so much better than a downspout.

I had this mounted in a new gutter, and hung them as directed from a 2″ hole in the bottom of the gutter. However, that was not sufficient to direct the water into the first cup. Water runs out in all directions from the hole and much of it missed the first cup. What would be best would be a short down tube from the gutter to better direct the water. Since I couldn’t find anything suitable, I purchase the larger collector cup that is sold separately. That does a better job of catching water. However, in light rain water still wants to follow the bottom of the gutter and miss the first collector cup. My next solution will be to put a small putty lip around the bottom of the gutter hole in the hope that water will fall off the lip a little better. Since it is working pretty good right now, it may be a while before I get to adding the putty.

The description says it fits downspouts of various sizes and is easy to install, which is true. However, it also says the “top and bottom links are attached”. The gutter mount is not included. If you have a rain chain already, it is easy to attach this at the top to the chain’s mount, or you can make a mount yourself. That being said, it is large enough to fit under almost any downspout to funnel water into the smaller links of the rain chain. It looks nice in place, and for the time being is very shiny.

Additional note: I see the description has finally been changed to accurately relect what you get when you buy this item. I purchased it to use on a 10-foot high gutter, and rather than buy a copper chain for it, I bought a 20-foot lightweight stainless-steel “tie-out” chain from Wal-Mart for about . I twisted the chain to shorten it to 10 feet and attached it at the bottom so it wouldn’t unwind. I made a gutter mount for the reducer out of a heavy metal coat hanger, attached the chain to the bottom link, and hung it up. It works quite well–the twisted chain has enough width and is a significant savings over the price of its’ copper counterpart.

The only reason I gave these a 4 rather than a 5 is because I will have to alter the gutter to hang them securely. I don’t know that I wouldn’t have bought these had I known that, but I do wish they had been more specific on what was required on the gutter. It says:

“Each unit comes with an attachment piece and is very easy to be installed into your existing gutter system.” I have to remove an end cap and drill holes for mounting…not difficult, just not “real easy”. These are so beautiful though that I have no regrets!

I love my copper rain chain. I got it and put it up over the summer. There were so many links, that we took some off to make it the right length, then used the remaining cups to house tea light candles on our patio table. The rain chain has now taken on that lovely aging patina that makes copper such a desirable metal to have. Even the dog has enjoyed standing by the rain chain on rainy days and try to catch raindrops with her tongue. It has been a charming asset to my back yard.
